Story

The full story

Muadh ibn Jabal — Aqabah-pledged youth, Badr veteran — was named by the Prophet ﷺ most knowledgeable of halal and haram. Knowledge with youth: the combination that gets deployed, not shelved.

Dispatched to Yemen, he received the missionary manual in one dialogue: invite to testimony first, then prayer, then zakat from the rich to the poor — gradualism as doctrine. Asked what he would judge by: the Book, then the Sunnah, then his reasoning — the Prophet praised the answer that blesses ijtihad.

Governor and teacher in Yemen, then Syria under Abu Bakr and Umar — Quran collector among the famous four (with Ubayy, Zayd and Abu Zayd). His counsel steadied armies and markets alike.

Dying young of the Amwas plague (18 AH) after Abu Ubaydah — the scholar-mujahid’s epitaph in his own reported words: welcome death, long-awaited visitor. Knowledge sealed with martyrdom’s plague.

Narrated from the seerah and hadith collections without invented details.
