Khalid ibn al-Walid — The Drawn Sword

Khalid — Quraysh’s cavalry genius — engineered Uhud’s reversal, circling the abandoned archers’ hill. Converted before Hudaybiyyah’s peace, he arrived confessing wasted years; the Prophet named him a sword among Allah’s swords.

Mu’tah proved the title: three commanders fallen, Khalid seized the banner, fought a masterful withdrawal the Prophet called a conquest. Then Hunayn, Tabuk, the Ridda wars — Yamama’s garden of death won through his storming — then Yarmouk, where thirty thousand faced hundreds of thousands across six days of genius.

Mid-Yarmouk, Umar dismissed him for Abu Ubaydah — fearing men would trust Khalid over Allah. He served as a soldier under his replacement without a ripple, finishing the campaign he started. Obedience outranked command.

Dying in Homs (21 AH) in bed, he wept: a hundred battles, no span without a wound — and here I die like a camel. Let cowards never sleep easy. Buried in his armour, undefeated, un-bitter.
