Steps in order

The Friday routine
Take ghusl (stressed sunnah, wajib-adjacent in Hanbali fiqh for attendees), wear your best, apply perfume, and arrive early - angels record arrivals in order until the imam ascends. Pray four sunnah rakahs (Hanafi practice) or tahiyyatul-masjid, then listen to the khutbah in silence: even saying “quiet” to another breaks the reward of Jumuah.
Recite Surah Al-Kahf (light between the Fridays), send abundant salawat (presented to the Prophet ﷺ), and seek the answered hour - most hoped in the last hour after Asr before Maghrib - with dua.
The prayer and after
Two fard rakahs behind the imam (Al-Jumuah then Al-Munafiqun, or Al-A’la then Al-Ghashiyah), then 2+2 sunnah after (or four continuous per Hanafi practice). Whoever catches one rakah with the imam catches Jumuah; whoever misses it prays four of Dhuhr instead.
Women, travelers, the sick and children are excused and pray Dhuhr; menstruating women rest. Friday is also the day of the congregational ghusl ruling, nail-trimming and extra charity.
