Shaban: the neglected month

“A month people neglect between Rajab and Ramadan” (Nasai, graded good) - the Prophet ﷺ fasted most of Shaban, and deeds are raised in it, so he loved his deeds raised while fasting. Use Shaban for qada makeup fasts before Ramadan and for the pre-Ramadan dua (Allahumma barik lana...).

Aisha reported she never saw him fast a full month besides Ramadan - so Shaban fasting is abundant but not the entire month. Pair fasting with Quran review and charity as Ramadan’s warm-up.

The 15th night: hope without invention

“Allah looks at His creation on the 15th night of Shaban and forgives all except the mushrik and the quarrelsome” (Ibn Majah/Bayhaqi - graded weak-to-fair, strengthened by multiple chains per some scholars). The balanced position: pray, recite and seek forgiveness that night individually with hope - without congregational “Shab-e-Barat prayers”, mosque illuminations, fireworks, grave-feast rituals or fixed 100-rakah formulas, all baseless.

Fast the 15th day as part of the monthly white days (13th-14th-15th, an established sunnah) - not as a standalone “Barat fast” with invented rites. Reconcile with quarreling relatives first: the narration itself excludes the hostile.
