The 7 red flags

One, demanding large upfront money or “per-session” fees that grow with fear - genuine ruqyah is usually free or token-cost. Two, seclusion with women or touching non-mahram patients - forbidden under the guise of treatment. Three, amulets (taweez) with unreadable writing, squares, numbers, unknown names or seals - unintelligible content is never permissible ruqyah, whatever the seller claims.

Four, guaranteed cures (“100% removal in 3 days”) - healing is Allah’s alone; guarantees are lies. Five, asking for the mother’s name, photos, clothing or hair to “diagnose” - the fortune-teller’s toolkit, not ruqyah. Six, prescribing haram acts: sacrifices, graveyard rites, burying objects, animal blood. Seven, claiming unseen knowledge (“I see the jinn telling me your story”) - kashf-claims that demand obedience are manipulation; walk away from all seven.

The trustworthy raqi and the self-first rule

A trustworthy reciter recites audible Quran and authentic duas, charges nothing or little, never touches or isolates, writes only intelligible Quran-dua (and discourages hanging even that), tells you to pray and do self-ruqyah, and refers medical cases to doctors. Judge by these positives, not by fame, follower counts or “miracle” testimonials.

Better still is self-ruqyah - the sunnah default: Fatiha, Ayatul-Kursi and the Muawwidhat over yourself cost nothing and carry no risk.
