How to

Steps in order

  1. 1Fix one mushaf copy, a daily Fajr slot, and a listening teacher.
  2. 2Take sabaq of 5 lines via look-10x/recite-10x, joining progressively.
  3. 3Recite every sabaq to your teacher the same day - no exceptions.
  4. 4Run sabqi (7 days) and manzil (full cycle ≤15 days) alongside; cap new lessons if manzil slips.
  5. 5Retain for life: rotate pages through prayers, teach others, monthly cycles.

The three portions and the 5-line method

Every durable hifz runs three daily portions: sabaq (new lesson, ~5 lines or half a page), sabqi (last 7 days’ lessons recited whole), and manzil (full revision cycle of everything memorised, completed every 7-15 days). The new lesson uses the 5-line method: recite line one looking 10x, then without looking 10x; add line two the same way, join both; build to five lines, then recite the whole sabaq to a teacher or recording the same day - unrecited-to-a-teacher memorisation leaks within weeks.

Teacher testimony is non-negotiable: the Prophet ﷺ revised with Jibril yearly (Bukhari/Muslim), and every hafiz stands on a listening chain - recite each sabaq to a qualified listener daily, even by phone. Memorise from one mushaf copy (visual memory photographs the page), at Fajr’s slot (peak retention), with wudu, understanding each verse first (pairs with our tafsir guide) - understanding halves the repetition count.

Schedules, revision math, and keeping it for life

Full-time students finish in 2-4 years at ~1 page daily; schoolchildren in 4-6 years at half-page; working adults in 6-10 years at 5 lines daily - all glorious, none inferior, since the race is against one’s own yesterday. Revision math rules everything: memorising without growing manzil guarantees forgetting; cap new lessons whenever manzil slips past 15 days, and dedicate Ramadan (our khatm plan) plus weekly off-days to manzil-only cycles. One juz mastered and kept outweighs ten half-kept.

Lifelong retention needs five anchors: daily manzil recitation (in prayers - rotate memorised pages through sunnahs and Tahajjud), teaching others (lead family halaqas), monthly full-Quran cycles, sin-guarding (hearts darkened by screens leak verses - the classical warning), and the khatm dua at completions. Stuck verses get the 100x treatment (one verse, hundred repetitions across days); demotivation gets companionship (hifz partner, group chat of reciters) and dua. The crown for parents (Abu Dawud) awaits - begin the child’s hifz at 4-6 with short surahs and joy, never tears.
