Discernment first: sihr, jinn or medical illness?

Sihr is real - the Quran confirms magic was taught at Babylon (2:102) and that “they do not harm anyone except by Allah’s permission” - but most suspected cases are medical or psychological illness, marital discord, or life’s ordinary trials. The rule: see a trustworthy doctor first, treat what medicine explains, and run ruqyah alongside - never abandon medicine for a “spiritual-only” diagnosis from an unverified raqi.

Red-flag “diagnoses” to reject: anyone who claims certainty of sihr from a photo, a name, dreams alone, or “kashf” visions; demands large upfront money; or prescribes burying objects, knots, sacrifices or visiting graveyards at night. Genuine counsel says “it could be X - treat both paths” and charges little or nothing.

The ruqyah regimen and what has no basis

The breaking regimen is: five prayers guarded on time, daily self-ruqyah (Fatiha, Ayatul-Kursi, last two Baqarah verses, three Quls thrice - see our self-ruqyah guide), morning-evening adhkar without gaps, Surah Al-Baqarah recited in the home (its recitation banishes satans and its abandonment is regret - Sahih Muslim), seven Ajwa dates some mornings (Bukhari/Muslim), and lotus-leaf (sidr) water baths as classical scholars describe - all continued for months with patience and repentance.

What has no basis: paying for “guaranteed” untying, amulets with squares-numbers-unreadable names, “sending jinn back” rituals, counter-magic (doing sihr to undo sihr is itself forbidden), consulting fortune-tellers (forty nights of prayer rejected - Sahih Muslim), and abandoning worship because “the magic blocks it” - that despair is exactly the enemy’s goal. Allah’s cure outlasts every knot.
