The seven-share math
A cow or camel splits into exactly seven equal shares - seven strangers may combine, each intending Qurbani; all seven intentions should be sacrificial worship (Qurbani, aqeeqah or hady), not mere meat purchase, per most schools. Keep a written share list with names and payments before slaughter.
One sheep or goat covers one person only - but its reward can be gifted to the whole household and the deceased by intention. Chickens, wild game and underage animals never count.
Who is liable
Hanafi: every sane adult owning nisab on the days of sacrifice (beyond home, transport and debts) - including women with gold. Others: the household head’s sacrifice suffices the family. Children and the insane are exempt; travelers retain the duty in Hanafi fiqh.
Missed it entirely? No makeup slaughter after the 13th - give the animal’s value in charity with repentance, and resolve earlier booking next year.
