Story
The full story
Talha ibn Ubaydullah believed through Abu Bakr among the earliest — and was tortured tied with him, the pair mocked as inseparable. At Badr he missed the battle on a spy mission with Sa’id ibn Zayd, yet the Prophet counted him among its people with full share.
At Uhud, when the line broke and assassins closed on the Prophet ﷺ, Talha became a human shield — catching arrows with his bare hand until it withered, carrying the wounded Prophet on his back up the mountain. “Whoever wishes to see a martyr walking the earth, let him look at Talha.”
His wealth flowed like his blood: the “generous Talha,” “Talha of goodness,” feeding Madinah’s poor from Syrian caravans he gave away entire. The Prophet named him among the ten promised Paradise.
He fell at the Battle of the Camel (36 AH) — struck down in the first civil war, mourned by Ali himself, who wept over his old brother. Shield in life, casualty of division in death.
