Story
The full story
Sulayman inherited Dawud, and was taught the speech of birds; his hosts of jinn, men and birds were marshalled in order (27:15–17). Hearing an ant warn her colony, he smiled and prayed: my Lord, inspire me to thank Your favour upon me and my parents, and to do righteousness pleasing to You — admit me by Your mercy among righteous servants (27:19).
The wind was subjected to him — a month’s journey morning and evening — with molten copper flowing, and jinn building and diving by his Lord’s leave (21:81–82, 34:12). Reviewing the birds, he missed the hoopoe and threatened inquiry — until it returned with news of Sheba and a queen worshipping the sun (27:20–26).
His letter — in Allah’s name, the Most Merciful — summoned her without exalting against him (27:30–31). Her gifts refused, her throne fetched before her arrival, her palace floor of glass mistook for water — she surrendered: my Lord, I wronged myself; I submit with Sulayman to Allah, Lord of the worlds (27:38–44).
Death came standing on his staff, unnoticed by labouring jinn until a creature ate through it — proving jinn never knew the unseen (34:14). Kingdoms end; gratitude remains.
