Story

The full story

Hamza, the Prophet’s uncle and foster-brother, was Makkah’s great hunter. Returning to find Abu Jahl had insulted the Prophet, he struck Abu Jahl with his bow and declared Islam on the spot — pride converted to protection in a single afternoon.

His conversion broke the boycott of fear: with Hamza and soon Umar, Muslims prayed openly. In Madinah he led early expeditions and fought like a lion at Badr, duelling its champions.

At Uhud, Wahshi — an Abyssinian slave promised freedom — speared him from hiding while he fought. The Prophet ﷺ wept over him as over no one, titled him chief of martyrs, and led seventy takbirs of funeral prayer.

Years later Wahshi embraced Islam; Hind, who ordered the killing, too. Hamza’s killer and his instigator both forgiven — the Lion’s legacy is mercy wider than revenge.

Narrated from the seerah and hadith collections without invented details.
