Nuh — Nine Centuries and the Ark

Nuh called his people night and day, openly and in secret, for a thousand years less fifty — yet they plugged their ears, wrapped their garments, and persisted in pride (71:1–9, 29:14). He pleaded with them to seek forgiveness so the sky would pour rain and wealth and children increase — but they crowned their fingers’ idols Wadd, Suwa, Yaghuth, Yauq and Nasr, refusing to leave them (71:10–23).

Then came the command: build the ark under Our watch and revelation — and address Me not concerning the wrongdoers, for they shall be drowned (11:37, 23:27). He built on dry land while the chiefs laughed; he answered that the mockery would reverse on the appointed morning (11:38–39).

When the oven boiled over, the command came: load pairs of every kind, your family except those decreed, and the believers — though few had believed (11:40, 23:27). Springs burst and skies poured; the waves rose like mountains. Nuh called to his son — embark with us — but the son trusted a mountain instead, and the waves separated them (11:42–43).

The ark sailed to Judi’s rest; the command came down: O earth, swallow your water; O sky, withhold — and it was said: away with the wrongdoing people (11:44). Nuh’s closing plea — admit no disbeliever’s house standing — and his prayer for his parents and every believing man and woman seal the chapter (71:26–28).
