❓ Frequently asked questions
Who gets paid before inheritance?
In order: funeral expenses, all debts, then bequests up to one-third of the estate. Only the net remainder is divided — enter that remainder above.
What is the wife’s share?
One-fourth if there are no children, one-eighth if there are children — shared equally among up to four wives.
What is the daughter’s share?
One daughter alone (no sons) takes one-half; two or more share two-thirds. With sons, daughters share the residue at half a son’s portion each.
Why Sunni only?
Ja’fari law differs significantly (e.g. no awl/radd in the Sunni sense, different residuary rules). This v1 covers the six closest heir types under Sunni rules; complex families need a scholar.
Is this a fatwa?
No — an educational estimate. Real cases involve debts, missing heirs, pregnancy, or distant relatives. Consult a qualified scholar before distributing.
