Story
The full story
Musa himself requested him: grant me a minister from my family — Harun my brother; strengthen me through him and share my task, so we may glorify You much and remember You much (20:29–34, 25:35). Allah answered: you are granted your request, Musa (20:36). Prophethood and eloquence were joined to brotherhood.
When Musa went to the mountain for forty nights, he left Harun in charge: act rightly among my people, reform, and do not follow the corrupters’ path (7:142). In his absence Samiri forged a lowing calf from ornaments, and many worshipped it.
Harun had warned them beforehand: your Lord is the Most Merciful, so follow me and obey my command — but they answered they would cling to it until Musa returned (20:90–91). Fearing division among the Israelites, he held back from force, and the rebels seized his beard and head when Musa returned in anger (7:150, 20:92–94).
Musa’s anger cooled into prayer for them both: my Lord, forgive me and my brother, admit us into Your mercy (7:151). Harun endures as the model deputy — eloquent, gentle, and excused by revelation itself.
