Adam — The First Man from Clay

Allah announced to the angels that He would place a successive authority on earth, and created Adam from sounding clay, fashioned in due proportion, breathing into him of His spirit (15:28–29, 38:71–72). He taught Adam all the names — then displayed them before the angels, who confessed they knew only what He taught them (2:31–32). Commanded to prostrate, all bowed except Iblis, who refused out of pride in his fire-origin over Adam’s clay (2:34, 7:12).

Adam and his wife were settled in Paradise with one command: eat freely, but do not approach this tree, lest you become wrongdoers (2:35, 7:19). Satan whispered to them, swearing he was a sincere adviser, until they tasted the tree and their shame became visible (7:20–22). They were told to descend — enemies to one another — with livelihood and enjoyment on earth for a time (2:36, 7:24).

Then Adam received words from his Lord, and He turned to him in forgiveness — indeed He is the Most Relenting, Most Merciful (2:37). The Quran preserves their repentance: our Lord, we wronged ourselves — if You do not forgive and have mercy, we will be losers (7:23). Guidance was promised: whoever follows it shall neither fear nor grieve (2:38).

On earth Adam became the first prophet — the father of mankind and the first link in the chain the Quran traces through Nuh, Ibrahim, Musa, Isa and Muhammad ﷺ. His story fixes three foundations: knowledge as humanity’s honour, Satan as the declared enemy, and repentance as the open door that never closes.
