Story

The full story

At Uhud, fifty archers were ordered never to leave the hill. Seeing spoils, most descended; Khalid’s cavalry wheeled through the gap. Seventy companions fell, including Hamza - and the Prophet ﷺ was wounded.

The Quran’s verdict was surgical: disobedience after showing you what you love (3:152). Defeat became curriculum - the ummah’s most studied loss.

Two years later ten thousand besieged Madinah. On Salman’s Persian advice, the Muslims dug a trench - unknown to Arab warfare - and held it through weeks of cold, hunger and betrayal scares.

The confederates broke and left. The Prophet ﷺ said: from now on we will raid them and they will not raid us. Defence had matured into strategy.

Narrated from widely transmitted histories without invented details.
