Eid Day Checklist
Eid has an order — Fitr and Adha differ at exactly two points (dates before prayer vs eating after sacrifice). Walk the list in sequence.
- ✓Night before (Fitr): pay any remaining fitrana; start the takbeer at the Shawwal moon. (Adha): takbeer running since Arafah dawn.
- ✓Dawn: Fajr in congregation, then Eid ghusl, best clothes, perfume; new-clothes dua.
- ✓Fitr: eat an odd number of dates before leaving. Adha: eat nothing until after the sacrifice.
- ✓Walk to the Eidgah reciting takbeer aloud; go by one route, return by another.
- ✓Pray two rakahs with extra takbirs behind the imam; stay for the khutbah.
- ✓Greet with “Taqabbal Allahu minna wa minka”; visit family, forgive quarrels, include the poor.
- ✓Adha 10th–13th: slaughter after prayer, distribute in thirds fresh, pay butcher in cash, donate the hide.
- ✓Close gatherings with the kaffaratul-majlis dua; keep the takbeer going (Adha: after every fard till the 13th Asr).
❓ Frequently asked questions
Fitr vs Adha morning — what differs?
Two things: Fitr eats dates before prayer; Adha fasts till the sacrifice. Everything else (ghusl, dress, takbeer, Eidgah, routes) is shared.
What if I miss the congregation?
Pray two rakahs alone with extra takbirs; the rest of the checklist still applies.
When does Adha takbeer stop?
After Asr on the 13th — the restricted takbeer follows every fard prayer from Arafah dawn.
